The Fondation has benefited since its opening from an annual loan from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, initiated between April 2014 and March 2015 with the painting Self-portrait with Pipe and Straw Hat.

Vincent painted this self-portrait in Paris prior to his departure for Arles. It shows him already imagining himself as a straw hatted man of the South. His bright palette, saturated with light, uses bold shades of color and his brushwork is uncommonly light and loose. To today’s eyes it is a particularly fresh and bewitching picture.
