Paul Mc Carthy (born in 1945) is a leading figure of today’s art. At work since the late 1960s, it was not until the early 2000s, during major retrospectives in New York, Munich and London, in particular, that he earned real international recognition. Drawing inspiration from popular culture, his work is an uncompromising criticism of the American way of life, which he questions and dismantles with great relish. He has recently shown his work with the Park Avenue Armory in New York, at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, and at the Vienna Kunsthalle.
