Paul Nash. Sunflower Rises

Simon Grant, Michael Bracewell

The catalogue Paul Nash. Sunflower Rises was published on the occasion of the exhibition that presented at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles, some thirty works by an artist considered one of the greatest British modernists, yet little known in France, from 21 April to 28 October 2018.

Combining a fascination with landscape and a personal vision of real and imaginary worlds, Nash’s art reflects his singular perception – inspired by nature, transformed by the two world wars, and influenced by a growing awareness of his own mortality. His many stays in France, as well as the work of French artists, also had a major influence on his practice, explored here for the first time.

This catalogue invites to an immersion into the life and work of Paul Nash through his paintings and photographs, as well as through original texts by exhibition curator Simon Grant and author, novelist and art critic Michael Bracewell.
