BIOGRAPHY
Guillaume Bruère
Guillaume Bruère aka GIOM (born in 1976) is a painter, draughtsman, sculptor and performer. He lives and works in Berlin. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and then at the École Supérieure de l’Image in Poitiers, he exhibited at the Château de Chambord, France; the MARTa Herford Museum and the Galerie der Stadt Backnang in Germany; and at the Nahmad Contemporary Gallery in New York. His work, fragile and impulsive, colorful and liberated, carries a lightning energy. For several years he moved into museums and reinterpreted major works of the history of art. Colour, collage and the search for expressiveness helped to create a singular world in the revisited old paintings as well as in public performances during which the artist shows—until exhaustion—the energy that prevails in his own work. More recently the theatre, dance venues and a refugee camp have been resources in which he has captured reality for his striking portraits.
